Goes with my head-canon that Scrooge and his sister Matilda were best friends growing up. I went back and read Chapter 11 of Life and Times, and noticed how Matilda never raised her voice at Scrooge, never said a word if it did not come with the love she had for her big brother, and she always looked back over her shoulder to see if he would do something.

So I imagine having to disown him in 1930 was one of the hardest choices of her life. To watch your best friend, your big brother, go from being an honest, kindhearted, generous boy to becoming a greedy monster must have been heartbreaking for her.

And he only realized what he had done once it was too late.
