I finally got the chance to upload this.
If you want to learn more about it, read the description on Youtube, please.
Very nice done! Really!
However, I think it is a good thing that Calvin & Hobbes did not turn into a mass-media-merchandise, nor even just film adapted.
I agree with the basics of mr. Watterson’s beliefs of not commercializing his strip. A cartoon strip is, what’s being said, reckoned as a “lower artform”, and I personally think it’s because most people see it as an art-form that appears, but not necessarily always speaks, to a younger audience. I myself question comics as an “lower artform”. What is a low art? I know mr. Watterson has questioned the same thing, and I ALSO happen to know he actually made a reference to it in one of his Calvin & Hobbes strips once. If you haven’t read it, it is filed under the date of 20th July 1993 www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobb…
IF Calvin & Hobbes had turned into a mass-media product, I think, the strip would have turned out a lot less special. Of couse it is not something that I thought about when I was little. I even once questioned why there weren’t manufactured any Hobbes-dolls… But through time I began to go more into mr. Watterson’s beliefs and I think I am beginning to get it.
I am glad that Watterson did what he did, and I find myself that IF I should happen to turn out the same, which I by the way find impossible to belife, I would probably do the same…
…But just to be clear as this Is just a fan-work: It’s really good. I’m always interested in Calvin & Hobbes artwork, even if it is done poorly. It’s an interesting style you have given the characters and I hope you would take the time to make more. Fact is, I have filed it under my favorites.
I don’t think I needed to write what I did, but I just FELT like it. I’m sorry for my long explanations, but I hope it will actually make some sence, not just for YOU, but also to those who ACTUALLY read the comments like I did…
