Illustration Project - The Snow Queenby *KicsterAsh

For my Editorial Illustration Course, we had to make three illustrations of a short story or fairy tale. My friends told me to take one that hasn't been done by Disney yet, and so I turned to one of my all time favorites by H.C. Andersen, The Snow Queen.

_{I looked for so many references of the Snow Queen, yet they were either incredibly horrifying or just too beautiful to be evil. So I redesigned one, and that's how my character Empress Irena was born. So this is she, as the Snow Queen.

The German Shepherd is Otto. He will be replacing Simon in the original KICS series. I will introduce him more along with the other two dogs that come along with him. Otto is Kai, the boy in the story who gets a shard of evil glass in his heart and eye, and then is kidnapped by the Snow Queen.

Sasha is the black cat. She will be appearing in KICS as well as Simon's coworker. More will be discussed of her later on. She is Gerda, the little girl who goes on an adventure to rescue the little boy she loves dear.}

Okeh, so that's the ruler of the Earth Kingdom on Marya. Hope you like^^ More of Otto and his two companions will be coming up later on.

This is totally epic!!! I can't help but to think of Alvin (one of The Chipmunks) when I look at Otto in the first frame. Probably because of the red top on brown fur. xD I especially love your Empress Irena as the Snow Queen. She is so beautiful! This is probably one of the best re-designs of "The Snow Queen" I've ever seen. Your new concept is so unique, and epically done.

SO I just heard today that Disney is doing a film called Frozen and when I saw the concept art I immedeately thought of this picture. Their inspiration for it is The Snow Queen...it's like you're psychic O.O

Their version of the Snow Queen is WAY off tho. Like seriously, I heard of their plotline for it and it's completely off. I'm not really looking forward to it
