She waited in the hallway, fingers intertwined and hands tucked between her legs. Her aqua eyes studied the freshly waxed floor of the high school, but anyone who walked by could not see the anxiety in them because her long, wavy blond hair draped around her face, hiding it from view. Most of the student body knew why she was there though, so seeing her irises was not needed for anyone to understand what was happening.
It was not the first time this had happened. In fact, it had been happening plenty of times since the third grade.
The door to the principal’s office opened and out stepped the greying-haired man. On most days, he wore a knitted vest with a white blouse beneath, but today he was completely suited up, which indicated that he had an important meeting to attend in an hour or so. He looked at the seventeen-year-old girl with the familiar gentle, pitiful green eyes. “Thank you for waiting, Tanya,” he said.
Tanya rose to her feet and looked on in silence, waiting patiently for him to make the next move. He continued to look at her before turning his attention to someone still inside his office. With a discrete gesture of the head, he motioned for the person to step out.
And she did. Tanya relaxed her tensed muscles as her best friend stepped out of the office, backpack over her shoulders and long bangs of raven black hair hiding the right side of her face. The teenager did not look up but continued to stare at her feet with her baby blue eyes.
“Have the sheet signed by your mother for tomorrow, Ana,” the man instructed her, although the girl did not look back as she walked off. He slipped back into his office and closed the door quietly behind him.
Tanya watched as her best friend walked by without a word before tailing after her. “What did he say this time?” she asked.
Ana kept her eyes down as she spoke: “I need to get a sheet signed by my mom so that I can meet with the school counsellor every Wednesday after school for about an hour or so.”
“Anything… else? No detention?”
“… He said he’d let it slip, considering no bones were broken this time.”
Tanya sighed of relief, but the next moment she stared sternly at her companion. “Ana, you got lucky this time,” she warned. “Do you know how many times this year alone you got Detention for beating someone up?”
“He said I wouldn’t get Detention this time.”
“You’re this close to getting suspended, Anastasia Flynn. And you’re walking the line of getting expelled.”
“Once Brittany shuts her mouth, then maybe there will be less of me going into that room,” Ana snapped tiredly in reply, turning to look at her friend with a scowl on her brow. “Every punch I gave her, she deserved it. I don’t care if she’s got a fat lip for a week; it’ll make her think twice about insulting my family.”
“Are you sure this is the right thing to do?” Tanya asked meekly. “What your father would want?”
Ana narrowed her eyes. “Don’t give me that lecture again,” she said behind her teeth.
“But would he want it? Would he want you to beat people up?”
“He wanted me to protect my brother.”
“But not to the expense of breaking someone’s jaw, Ana,” her friend exclaimed. “I don’t even think Sparky likes it when you beat someone up in his name!”
Ana stopped in her tracks and pointed a menacing finger at Tanya, causing the girl to recoil. “Her brother stuffs him in a locker on a daily basis, Tanya,” she growled. “And he bruised Galileo’s shoulder so bad once that he couldn’t raise his arm more than 90 degrees for a whole week. If Leo wasn’t already tough, he’d be stuffed in his locker too.” She pointed at herself. “I will do what I must to get the picture through to everyone in this school that we are not a broken, rundown family, and my father was no faker.” She turned on her heels and stormed towards class, her steps thump-thumping against the ground. “And if it takes a busted jaw and a bruised rib, then so be it.”
I found a place to include Tanya in Imagination Jumpstart (Tanya is Christopher Robin's wife in WtP: Lost Treasures) Of course, it's not official until I can talk it over with Mel, so for now it's temporary.
Ana has two best friends but that too needs to be discussed. Two or three actually XD
Twas the first pic I drew with mah new tablet! Thankies Patrona!!! But I gave up on the shading so kiki-kit did that. It'S the first official colored pic of Ana too.
I remember watching sleeping beauty and wishing I was her to get awakened by prince charming...I even convinced my father (at 4) to buy me the Sleeping Bauty dress and wore it for three weeks straight (when they use to have the Disney store...I miss that store... D
I LOVE UR CHARACTERS!! They always have depth and good character traits that you'd find in real people. And I have a quick question. What are you gonna do with these series-things? Ya know, like IJ and KICS? What exactly are you gonna do with them? Either way I'll watch/read/whatever them
It IS cool that she's so protective of her brothers but they don't really like it, especially Sparky; he's got a sensitive nature and hates other people getting hurt, even if they're mean to him. I can relate to the "no one messes with my family" thing though; I once screamed at a classmate and ran out of the cafeteria in tears because he called my mom a bad teacher. Never punched anyone though.
I think some part of Ana knows that she could solve her problems without violence but she's gotten so mad at the world for mistreating her family that she doesn't listen to it anymore...which is a sad state of affairs. And there's a story tied to this where she learns the consequences of letting her anger control her...by hurting the one person she never wanted to; it's called "IJ: Run" and can be found in the OCs folder in KiscterAsh's gallery.
This is great, I can't wait to read more~ I love their designs, very original I think. Plus, I love how much the two best friends contrast each other in not only appearance, but in personality as well~ Keep up the good work!
